There is much to like about the CyberDisc-developed Nodescan Server: it provides support for multiple platforms, it has a simple GUI (graphical user interface), it allows you to create and run a custom server, it allows you to start/stop services while the server is running, and more.

Nodescan Server is a Java-based application. So if you have Java 1.6 or newer on your PC, Mac, or Linux machine, you will be able to run it.

To get started with Nodescan Server on your Windows-powered machine, you will not have to install anything. Here is what you will have to do: download a 10.2MB archive, extract its contents, run the Nodescan Server executable. Inside the archive you will also find useful information on how to use the application.

The first time you run Nodescan Server, you will be presented with the Preferences menu - it will help you set up your server, it will guide you through all the steps you need to take to configure your own, custom, and private server.

You will find lots of entries on the application's list of features: support for multiple languages, easily switch services on and off, create and manage a list of user accounts, receive email notifications, share files using your own server, use messenger applications on your custom server, automatic router configuration, and more.

You can then use the dedicated Nodescan Client to connect to the server you created.

Create, run and manage a custom, personal server. Thanks to Nodescan Server, you can very easily do so.

Pros

Nodescan Server provides support for multiple platforms; it will run on any OS that has Java 1.6 or newer. You don’t have to install anything to get started with Nodescan Server on a Windows-powered PC. Useful information on using Nodescan Server is included inside the archive. There are many settings to play with. Easily create and manage a custom, personal, private server. Connect to the server using Nodescan Client.

Cons

The application is still in Beta at the time of writing this.
